About the Commission

AN OPPORTUNITY TO HEAL THROUGH THE ARTS

All of Hampton Roads was shaken by the May 31st tragedy in Municipal Center Building #2.  In one way or another, our community was changed forever... like so many communities that are now bound together by the shared experience of these tragedies.

The members of the Virginia Beach Chorale would like to commission a new musical work that recognizes the hurt and rawness of this tragedy while also embracing the love that echoed through our community during this time. It is our hope that this piece will play a small role in helping our community, and others like ours, to heal.

We have contacted award-winning composer, Daniel E. Gawthrop, and he has humbly agreed to take on this monumental task. We are confident in his abilities as a composer to create a beautiful piece of music for our community.

We cannot do this alone. This undertaking is costly for small non-profits such as ours, but together, we can create art and we can create hope. Will you join us in making that happen?

The Virginia Beach Chorale is built upon its dedicated members and supporters who continue to make musical opportunities such as these possible.
